Colossians 3:5-11
Putting sin to death isn’t about self-effort — it’s about living out the new identity Christ has already given us.
How do we actually put sin to death and grow in Christlikeness? In Colossians 3:5–11, we see that real transformation flows from remembering who we are in Jesus and allowing the reality of His finished work to reshape what we desire and how we live. Paul calls us to put to death what is earthly in us — not by moral willpower, but by living out our new identity as people made new in Christ.
We fight sin by taking seriously the things that distort God’s design, and we put on the new self by allowing the gospel to reshape our desires, habits, and relationships. Because we are united to Christ, renewed in His image, and empowered by His Spirit, we can walk in a new way of life marked by holiness, compassion, and unity.
