Matthew 1:18-25
At Christmas, it’s easy to treat the story of Jesus’ birth as something familiar, sentimental, or symbolic. But Matthew presents it as something far more significant: a true and purposeful moment in history where God stepped into our world to save us.
In Matthew 1:18–25, we see that the birth of Jesus was not only historical, but also irrational, supernatural, relational, purposeful, and ultimately transformational. Jesus was born of a virgin, entered into a broken family line, and came near to people in their weakness—not because we could reach God on our own, but because we needed Him to come to us.
This sermon explores what it means for Jesus to be called Emmanuel—God with us—and why that reality changes everything. The Christmas story is not just about how Jesus came, but why He came: to save His people from their sins and to remain with them forever.
